& Care

Many common muscle and joint conditions can be effectively managed with chiropractic manipulation, soft tissue therapies, and education about proper movement. Dr. DeFries selects care based on your examination findings, individual needs, and goals, with an emphasis on decreasing pain, improving function, and supporting ongoing mobility and wellness.

Fundamental Care

What are we working toward?

Your care starts with understanding what is affecting you and what you want to do more comfortably. The overall goals are to decrease pain and improve function.

  • Improve joint mobility
  • Reduce muscle spasm and tension
  • Restore strength, endurance, and coordination
  • Improve posture and movement habits
  • Address nerve irritation when appropriate for conservative care

Within Dr. DeFries’s chiropractic approach, care also aims to support healthy nervous system function and overall well-being. Progress is assessed through your symptoms, examination findings, and everyday activities.

Chiropractic Adjustment and Mobilization

Through examination, Dr. DeFries identifies joints that are not moving or functioning properly. When appropriate, he applies a controlled force to restore movement. This is called a chiropractic adjustment.

Dr. DeFries may perform the adjustment by hand or with a specialized adjusting instrument, depending on your examination findings, comfort, and preferences.

Traditional chiropractic recognizes the relationship between the spine, the nervous system, and the function of the body as a whole. The nervous system helps coordinate movement, sensation, and many physiological processes. From this perspective, addressing joint dysfunction aims to support healthy communication between the body and nervous system.

Dr. DeFries uses this approach with the goals of decreasing pain, improving movement, and supporting overall function and well-being. Care is guided by your examination, individual needs, and response to treatment.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Muscles and surrounding connective tissues can become tender, tense, or restricted following injury, repetitive activity, or prolonged positioning. These changes may contribute to discomfort and difficulty moving.

Soft tissue mobilization uses targeted pressure and movement to address these areas. Dr. DeFries may use hands-on techniques, specialized soft tissue instruments, or radial pressure wave therapy, depending on your examination findings and comfort.

The goals are to decrease pain, reduce muscle tension and spasm, and improve tissue mobility so you can move more comfortably. Treatment may be combined with adjustments, stretching, or exercise to support muscle function and everyday activity.

Movement & Exercise Therapy

Everyday activities, physical work, and sports build on basic movements. Care focuses on how you move, your posture, and the strength and coordination needed for the activities that matter to you.

Dr. DeFries uses exercises and practical movement guidance selected for your examination findings, abilities, and goals. This may include mobility work, strengthening, balance, and practicing movement patterns.

Building these fundamentals supports more comfortable everyday activity and provides a foundation for more demanding work or sports. The aim is lasting improvement in function, with habits and exercises that support continued mobility and wellness.
